The route from Peerkankaranai
Come out of Peerkankaranai to GST Road at Perungalathur, or go north on the Mudichur road to Tambaram. Either way you then follow GST Road north through Tambaram Sanatorium and Chromepet to Pallavaram, turn west onto Pallavaram-Kundrathur Road, and carry on through Pammal into Anakaputhur.
There is no station in Peerkankaranai itself. Perungalathur is the nearest, southwest of the neighbourhood on GST Road, and Tambaram is the other choice, with far more services and the bus terminus beside it. If you are having anything done under local anaesthetic, decide before you leave which of the two you are coming back through rather than working it out afterwards with a numb jaw.
The lake is the fixed point everyone here navigates by, and it is also the reason the drains struggle. It was over 160 acres once and decades of encroachment have cut it to about half of that, while the restoration scheme the PWD announced in 2018 has stayed on paper. The practical result is that the interior roads here go under along with Perungalathur, Irumbuliyur and Mudichur when the rain is heavy.
